Here at the Eco Villa, we've got heaps of activities and entertainment to get you inspired and energised. From barbecue facilities, outdoor baths and an edible garden.

When you're ready to start exploring the neighbourhood, we have bicycles available to hire for free so you can discover everything the City has to offer.

In the City

Botanic Gardens: Open 7 days a week and free entry. The Botanic Gardens is the perfect tranquil spot to spend a lazy afternoon in the sun.

The Avon River: Drift peacefully along the river by an Edwardian styled punter and behold the beautiful Botanic Gardens by boat. 

Museum: Located in the city centre, perfect for the whole family. Discover New Zealand's rich culture and history. General admission to the Museum is free; donations are appreciated.

Art Gallery: The public art gallery in the city centre, displaying an substantial collection of both New Zealand and international exhibitions. General admission is free.

Markets: Canterbury is host to some popular markets and fairs. On a Saturday morning, head over to Riccarton House for Christchurch Farmers Market, packed with artisan meat, cheese, fruit, veg & good coffee. Every Sunday is the Opawa  Farmers' Market with a great selection of fresh local produce, including a large organic range from well-known and trusted local growers. 

Cardboard Cathedral: The Transitional Cathedral built after the 2011 quakes, made substantially from cardboard. Constructed on the grounds of the former St Johns Latimer Square Anglican Church.

Bars & Nightlife: Quirky bars, craft breweries, shipping containers and refurbished buses. You'll be spoilt for choice with a lively and distinctive variety of nightlife and entertainment. 

Eating out: Christchurch offers plenty of restaurants and eateries to feed your appetite. On Victoria Street, you'll find heaps of places to suit every palette and budget.

Cafe Culture: Christchurch is big on coffee. Walking around you'll find the city is abundant in cafe's a coffee shops. You'll be spoilt for choice. 

Cycling: Explore the city by bike with free bicycle hire from the Eco Villa! 

 

Surrounding Area & Day Trips

Akaroa: Just over an hours drive away you'll find this beautiful French and British settlement. Explore the historic architecture, craft stores, galleries and cafe's.

Hanmer Springs: A one and a half hour drive from Christchurch. The perfect spot whether you're feeling adventurous or just fancy kicking back and unwinding. From hot springs to mountain biking, there's something here to suit everyone's holiday needs.

Walks & Hikes: Explore Canterbury by foot on some of the most beautiful tramping paths in the South Island. From Godley Head, Mount Summers & Hooker Valley just to name a few. You'll be in awe

 

New Brighton: A coastal suburb of Christchurch. just a 16 minute drive out of the city. With it's scenic coastal line & uniquely structured pier, it's easily one of Christchurch's main tourist spot.

Sumner: Another coastal suburb, and a popular surfing spot. Chill out on the beach bar and enjoy the picturesque views of the ocean, particularly stunning at sunset.

Kaikoura: Take part in dolphin, whale and seal spotting by boat, plane or helicopter. With a captivating history, you can also learn about Moari culture with interactive tours or a visit to Kaikoura Museum.
